As of January 8, 2024, Mack Trucks Academy will offer a revised and enhanced technical training development plan structure.
To give technicians a solid educational foundation regarding diesel-powered vehicles and their specific components while also providing new and comprehensive battery electric content to support this growing market.
To prepare our Mack dealer network personnel to effectively perform preventative maintenance and repair work on Volvo trucks to provide customer uptime and, ultimately, achieve greater market share.
The current structure includes a professional level and four master levels:
Diagnostics
Drivetrain
Electronics
Engine
The new structure adds an expert layer that aligns with Impact function groups:
Electrical
Aftertreatment systems
General
Transmission
Engine
The master level now includes:
Alternative propulsion
Transmission
Engine
Chassis and safety systems
Electronics
Technicians who complete all content within the professional, expert, and master levels will earn elite master certification.
Existing master technicians (as of January 8, 2024) will be exempted for three years
Individuals currently pursuing a master certification will maintain credit for all content completed before January 8, 2024, then will be enrolled in the new structure
Both current and pending master technicians must complete all training (including new or revised content) to maintain or earn certification
New hires or technicians with professional certification will be automatically enrolled in the new structure
All instructor-led courses have the option of a test-out
Two attempts allowed
Score must be 75% or greater
Certification at each level is valid for three years. Courses added to any level during that time must be completed to maintain certification.
Mack Trucks Academy understands it will take time to adapt to this change. We are committed to supporting this change effort by clearly and regularly communicating information relevant to the new structure via the development guide, Trucks Dealer Portal (TDP), and other appropriate channels.
Instructor-led training will be scheduled beginning in early January 2024 and regularly thereafter to support demand. Please refer to the development guide for more information.
